Dr. Lawrence Holzman is the Chairman of the NephCure Advisory Board. Dr. Holzman is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan as well as the Director of the University’s Nephrology Fellowship Training Program. He is affiliated with numerous Professional Organizational Fellowships, including the American Society of Nephrologists, the American Heart Association Kidney Council, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Kidney Foundation Science Committee.
Dr. Holzman received his M.D. training from the New Jersey Medical School. After completing his residency at The Hospital of the Medical College of Pennsylvania, he went on to complete his fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Holzman’s research is primarily focused in two crucial areas: the area of stress activated protein kinase signaling and the cell biology of the podocyte. Dr. Holzman has served as a research mentor to several fellows who have gone on to achieve academic positions in the United States and Germany. His laboratory has become paramount in the field and his research has led to multiple discoveries, some of which have been exemplary for work in other subjects.
His clinical interests include glomerular disease with particular interest in lupus nephritis, systemic vasculitis, and other inflammatory glomerulonephritidities. Dr. Holzman is credited with several publications concerning Nephrology and other related areas. He is recognized by many as a gifted doctor, teacher, and mentor.
