patient photoTyler’s Story:

In 2003, when I was two-years old, I was rushed to the emergency room after visiting my grandparents in Texas.  My parents had noticed that my face had gotten significantly bigger and my eyes were puffy all around.  I was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, a kidney disease that leads to protein leakage into the urine.

I take multiple vitamins, besides the medications and I eat only gluten, wheat free and organic foods. It keeps my body as strong as possible.

I enjoy math, and I’m the secretary of my school.  During my free time, I visit MMA academy's and talk about Nephrotic Syndrome and spar wit the head instructors to bring awareness and raise funds.

I also enjoy Jiu Jitsu where I study at the Gracie Academy in Torrance under Ryron Gracie. Sometimes I go to my friend Eddie Bravo's at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu. I have a close relationship with Ryron and he is aware of my constant battle with this kidney disease, and always encourages me. Ryron tells all Gracie Jiu Jitsu players to be involved with my mission of spreading the word about Nephrotic Syndrome to the world.

Additionally, my favorite Web site is Club Penguin, a virtual world of online games and activities.  I hope one day to become the world’s best inventor, refusing to let my kidney problem stop me from achieving my dream.
