It has
now been five and a half years since Blake was first diagnosed
with Nephrotic Syndrome. He has been through about 12 relapses,
four of which landed him in the hospital. His protein was very
low at times and required him to have albumin infusions. Unfortunately,
he is steroid dependant and has not been off of his med's at
all. Throughout these four years we have also dealt with high
blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Through it all Blake has kept a great attitude
and he is our strength. There are days that it seems so overwhelming,
but he gives us his sweet smile and we know we have to go on.
We pray everyday that this nightmare will end, but until then,
we deal with it as it comes. The funny thing is that when my
oldest son was about three, he also had symptoms of NS but
at the time I was told that it must be allergies and so on.
Now knowing what I know about NS, I am completely convinced
that it was NS and he grew out of it on his own. Blake on the
other hand is not growing out of it, like so many doctors say
will happen. We just take it one day at a time and deal with
what comes along.
