Free Patient Education
Seminar in Washington, D.C.
More than
25 patients and families attended the "Free
Patient Education Seminar" on May 14, 2005
in Washington, DC.
Families interacted with the researchers
and nephrologists who spoke during the seminar
and were grateful for the information provided
on Focal Segmental Glomerusclerosis (FSGS)
and Nephrotic Syndrome which assisted them
in becoming more familiar with the situation
they are dealing with.
"Families appreciated the straight forward
answers and the clear explanations for their
questions", said Lynne Miller who came all
the way from South Carolina to attend the
seminar, and added that "it only puts into
perspective for both families and researchers,
how much work needs to be done".
The NephCure Foundation thanks the following
speakers for their willingness to share
their wisdom with the families:
-
Dr. Jeffrey Kopp,
Staff Clinician, National Institute
of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney
Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes
of Health
-
Dr. William Smoyer,
NephCure Board of Directors and Director
of the Pediatric Nephrology Division,
University of Michigan Health System
-
Dr. Kevin McBryde,
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Department
of Nephrology, Children's National Medical
Center Washington, DC
More seminars are in
the works. These are great opportunities
for patients and families to receive up-to-date
information on research and treatment options,
and ask questions of researchers, physicians
and other healthcare professionals.
The next "Free Patient Education Seminar"
will be held this fall in the Boston Area.
