Three Web Sites for Free Genetic Testing

The lab of researcher Martin Pollak, M.D. will perform mutation analysis of the podocin (NPHS2) and alpha-actinin-4 genes at no cost to patient. Analysis of other genes also are performed in special cases.

Once collected, blood and urine specimens may be shipped free in supplied mailers.  Patients can have results returned to their physicians are choose not to learn results.

The lab of researcher Friedhelm Hildebrandt, M.D., does free mutational analysis of the podicin (NPHS2), WTI and nephrin gene.  At the web site, click on “nephrosis” button and print out ALL of the various forms. Take them to your doctor, go through the consent form with your doctor and sign it.

On consent form, check whether you want to hear test results (from your doctor only). Of more than 400 patients tested, almost all want to hear results.

Dr. Jeffrey Kopp of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Disease of the Kidney (NIDDK) also offers genetic testing for FSGS at no charge.  More information is available on the above website for Dr. Kopp's laboratory.
