NephCure,
Feds to Fund Important Genetic Studies
The NephCure
Foundation (NCF) has announced its first major
research initiative, a three-year effort with
the federal government to fund genetic testing
of FSGS patients who will be studied in upcoming
clinical trials.
Under an agreement
with NephCure, the National Institute of Diabetes
and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) will
match, dollar-for-dollar, funds provided by NephCure
for the genetic studies. Allen M. Spiegel, M.D.,
NIDDK Director, also agreed that NephCure will
recommend a member of its Scientific Advisory
Board to the External Advisory Committee for
the FSGS clinical trials.

The agreement
means that contributors to the NephCure Foundation
can literally double the impact of their contribution,
with every dollar donated to NCF's research campaign
being matched by the federal government.
