My name
is Jay DeSanto and for eleven years of
my life-since the age of five-I've been
battling Nephrotic Syndrome. Luckily, the
past year has been outstanding. I'm looking
great and healthy, playing much of my favorite
sport tennis, and have been basically living
like a normal teenager, thanks to this
year and a half remission that I have been
experiencing.
The
tournament that my family and I put together
was to help raise money for the NephCure
Foundation in order to help NephCure eventually
discover a possible cure for Nephrotic
Syndrome and FSGS. The tournament took
place at the University of Scranton's tennis
courts, located in Northeastern Pa. Age
groups of Boys and Girls 12 and under,
14 and under and, 16 and under competed
throughout the weekend of August 16-17.
Free
food was provided for all who stopped by
at the tournament and many took chances
on tennis baskets comprised of tennis paraphernalia
also contributing towards the total amount
of donation money for NephCure. Except
for the fact that we encountered passing
rain showers on Saturday, the tournament
went wonderfully and was fun for everyone
who stopped by to help support the cause.
We ended
up raising over $2,000 for the NephCure
Foundation! At this time I would like to
pay special thanks to Henry Brehm, Kevin
Tierney, and the Stewart family, all strong
supporters of the NephCure Foundation,
who managed to help out before and during
the tournament.
