Mother of Nephrotic Syndrome Patient and Friends Compete
in
Marathon to Raise Awareness
After a year of living in our new hometown of Aiken, South Carolina, our precious son, Mac, was diagnosed with Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome at his five-year check up. We were stunned by this diagnosis because our active little boy seemed to be so healthy. After 18 months of treatment, a kidney biopsy and genetic testing, Mac’s situation has failed to improve in any way. We have been through many different medications, experienced numerous unpleasant side-effects, and still have yet to see any positive response to treatment. Needless to say, we are tired and frustrated and are realizing that this is going to be a long battle. Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome still has so many unknowns and is not fully understood. What causes it? What is the best way to treat it and why? Because of these lingering questions, we have been so thrilled to find out about The Nephcure Foundation!
After searching our souls for a way to do something to help in NephCure’s cause, two of my dear friends and I decided to run The Kiawah Half-Marathon to raise money for Nephcure in Mac’s honor. (What precious friends we have to join me in honoring Mac in this way!!! We love you Dana Massey and Casey Young!) We are inspired by Mac’s will to fight this battle with Nephrotic Syndrome and are motivated by his strength. When the run gets long and our legs get tired, we think of Mac and press on.
The Kiawah Half-Marathon will take place on December 6th and extends 13.1 miles throughout the Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
We are welcoming donations to NephCure, as well as prayers for our strength during the run and for Mac’s strength in this long fight. Anything you can do will be so greatly appreciated.
