3rd Annual Rally For NephCure Tennis Tournament To Be Held At University of Scranton's Poly-Hi Tennis Courts August 13-14

Former Abington Heights ’ tennis standout Jay DeSanto has announced that the third annual Rally for NephCure tennis tournament will be held at the Poly Hi Tennis Courts on The University of Scranton on Saturday and Sunday, August 13-14.

There will be four divisions of competition for boys and girls:  12 & under, 14 & under, 16 & under, and 18 & under.  The entry fee of $30.00 includes trophies and refreshments.  All proceeds will benefit the NephCure Foundation, whose mission is to support research seeking the cause of Nephrotic Syndrome and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a kidney disease that sidelined Miami Heat superstar Alonso Morning during the height of his career in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

More than 50 players competing in last year’s tournament, which raised $10,000 for NephCure

DeSanto, who has served as tournament director since the tournament’s inception in 2003, is a four-time Scranton Times-Tribune all-regional selection and three-time PIAA District II doubles champion.  He will continue his academic and athletic career at The College of Holy Cross in Worcester , Massachusetts , in the fall.  DeSanto founded the tournament three years ago to help others afflicted with kidney disease.  Jay suffered with Nephrotic Syndrome for eight years. 

This year Ian Schobel, an eight year old Waverly resident who also has Nephrotic Syndrome will be serving as Assistant Tournament Director.
