It was just weeks after the 9/11 terrorist attack that the MRK Group, now at Morgan Stanley in Mt. Laurel NJ, found it time to plan the annual holiday card mailing to clients and friends. Clearly, this was not just another year.

That year the financial advisor group decided to put its holiday card budget to another use – a check to an organization supporting the brave police and firefighters in New York City.

The response from clients was overwhelmingly positive and a new tradition was born. Since then, MRK been making Christmas holiday contributions to organizations committed to helping others.

Since one of its client families is connected with the NephCure Foundation, the MRK Group sent the family a letter this week announcing its support for NephCure.

Signed by MRK members Tim Keegan, Dave Restrepo, George Marateo and Cindy Astorga, the letter said:

“Instead of mailing holiday cards to our clients as a way to say thank you for your trust and confidence in our advice, we have unanimously decided to contribute the money that we would normally spend on cards and support the NephCure Foundation.

“This organization’s mission is to support research seeking the cause of Nephrotic Syndrome (a kidney disease often leading to end stage renal disease), improve treatment and find the cure.”

The MRK Group has donated $1,000 to NephCure.
