Yards to go for a Cure
On June 17, the Kings Park community came together for “Yards for a Cure”, a bake sale which raised $5,000 to benefit The NephCure Foundation. This great effort was lead by two mothers, Diane Pohlman and Robin Zamayer, whose sons are affected by focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). When Pohlman and Zamayer learned of their similarities in life, they decided roll up their sleeves and help in the fight to halt the increasing incidences of Nephrotic Syndrome and FSGS. They organized “Yards for a Cure” to spread awareness and to raise funds for research. Joining their efforts was Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) who met with the group to show his support of this important mission. The patient families thank the Kings Park community for its great support, donating several great prizes such as salon gift certificates and spa gift baskets. A special thank you is dedicated to McDonald’s of Northport, the local Boy Scout Group, and Senator Flanagan.
Zamayer invites the community to continue supporting the NephCure mission, and says, “We won’t stop spreading the word until a cure is found for our sons and all patients with these conditions. I encourage the community to be a part of upcoming fundraisers to benefit NephCure. We are planning a dog walk in October and are part of a great committee which organizes Countdown to a Cure II on Thursday, November 2 in Huntington Station, NY.”
