As of February 22, the Valentine's Day Fundraiser at MasterCard Worldwide raised approximately $3,158. Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved!
At age 4, Jason was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. For a few months, he was in remission until one and a half years ago. This is when Jason began to relapse every two weeks. His family has unsuccessfully tried to treat him with several chemotherapy medications. In addition, Jason was put on pain medications to minimize the severe aches caused by his kidney drugs. Because of the side effects, Jason could not eat solid food for two months and his face began to swell. He had difficulty urinating for a few days due to excessive swelling. Despite his unrelenting discomfort, Jason has demonstrated incredible stamina and empathy, especially for a seven-year-old child. He told his family that when he grows up, he wants to be a doctor and cure Nephrotic Syndrome. Jason has also befriended an autistic child and he is determined to help his friend learn how to speak.
Jason’s mother, Wei Xu, Ph.D., Program Leader at MasterCard Worldwide, teamed up with The NephCure Foundation to help raise funds for NephCure's research and public awareness efforts. Dr. Xu is dedicated to provide hope for her son and the many patients affected by Nephrotic Syndrome and FSGS.
Together with her co-workers, she organized a fundraiser at MasterCard Worldwide on February 13, 14 and 15. Jason made bookmarks for his mother's fundraiser to help further kidney disease research. His determination and compassion gives his family strength and courage. They hope that his dream of curing Nephrotic Syndrome will come true for him someday.
