KEAGAN TURRUBIATES' WEEKEND FUNDRAISER RAISED $30,000 FOR NEPHROTIC SYNDROME AND FSGS
Festivities included Karaoke, Walk-a-thon and Family Carnival
Keagan was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome in November 2007. He has been placed on an intense pill regime which includes high doses of the steroid prednisone, side effects that include severe mood swings, hyper-activity, increased appetite and a lowered immune system. He also takes Zantax to aid in the agonizing stomach pains that are a result of the medication. Keagan is currently in “remission” and being weaned off the steroids
On Friday, May 2nd “Karaoke for a Kure” was held in Keagan’s honor at the Club Room Lounge at Best Western Grand Seasons. The evening began with a silent auction at 7 p.m. followed by karaoke from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. A local band, Cottonmouth, also performed free of charge!!
Fuzzy Thurston, a former Green Bay Packer, attended the event. Thurston was a key member of the Green Bay Packers’ offensive line from 1959 through 1967, during which the team won five NFL titles and two Super Bowls. Thurston learned about the event from the family’s advertising efforts. Thurston and Keagan have since become good friends.
The festivities continued on Saturday, May 3rd with a NephCure Step Forward Walkathon and family carnival. The walk began at 10 a.m. and took place on the WauKing Trail at South Park. Guests enjoyed a silent auction from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and a family carnival from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The weekend raised more then $30,000 which will go directly towards research into Nephrotic Syndrome and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).
A special THANK YOU goes to everyone who came out to support Keagan and The NephCure Foundation. Additional thanks goes to all the volunteers who helped organize the event and to all the sponsors for their kind donations.
