The
NephCure Foundation's Phone Donation Program
Frequently Asked Questions
Do
I need to have all the attachments and accessories
that came with my old cell phone?
No. You can donate just the phone or the phone with any accessories you might
have.
Does
it matter what kind of cell phone I have?
No. We accept all wireless cell phones, regardless of age or condition.
What
happens to the personal information stored
in the phones?
For your protection, all of your personal information is erased by the recycler.
What
if I don’t have a cell phone? Are there
other ways I can help?
Sure. There are millions of used cell phones all around us. Ask your friends,
family members, colleagues, neighbors, etc. You’ll be surprised how many
you can find just by asking. You could also be a volunteer to place collection
boxes.
What
happens to the used cell phones that are collected?
They are shipped to our partner, ReCellular, where they are refurbished and
resold in developing countries around the world as low-cost alternatives to
brand new phones. This provides affordable telecommunications technology to
those who desperately need it.
What
happens to the cell phones that ReCellular
can’t use or sell?
About 25 percent of the time, the cell phones donated cannot be reused. In
those cases, the cell phones are recycled here in the United States. The plastics
are melted down and the metals are extracted and reused. Any remaining waste
is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
Can
I sell my used cell phone to someone for cash?
No, there is no market for them in the U.S. The cell phones are sold in bulk
to the developing countries and The NephCure Foundation benefits from the sales
of these phones.
How
can I find out more about ReCellular?
You can visit www.wirelessrecycling.com.
