Your Employer May Match Your Big-Hearted Gift to NephCure
When you make a donation to NephCure, your employer may have something good to say about it. Large corporations such as Microsoft and GAP are matching their employees' generosity and their match -- combined with NCF's agreement with the federal government -- can multiply your donation four times over.

Genevieve Amato-Mendoza, who works for clothing retailer GAP, decided last year to contribute to NephCure, which she learned about after doctors diagnosed her 14-year-old brother, Dominic, with Nephrotic Syndrome (NS).

As part of its "Giving Campaign," the GAP strongly encourages its employees to give to organizations such as NephCure. In return, the company matches the employees' donations. As soon as Genevieve discovered NephCure, she made sure to register the Foundation with her employer.

What Genevieve did not know at the time is that NephCure now has a program with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) that will match, dollar-for-dollar, funds raised by the Foundation for FSGS research. That means for every dollar Genevieve contributes, the GAP's match makes that two dollars sent to NephCure, which will then be matched by the NIDDK and become four dollars.

Dominic's struggle with the illness certainly has impacted his life. Growing up, he was extremely active and played both baseball and football since age six. He dreamed of playing football in high school, but his NS has ended that possibility and much of his physical activity. Nevertheless, Genevieve and her family draw inspiration from his determination to fight the kidney condition.

"Dominic is our life and to see him hospitalized has been devastating," said Genevieve. "But, his strength to not just give up really inspires my family and me."

"Organizations like NephCure could benefit so much from matching employer contributions and I definitely encourage others to ask their employers about matching employee contributions."

Does your employer have such a matching program? If so, your donation to NephCure can be multiplied by a factor of four, getting us that much closer to the goal of finding the cause and cure of NS and FSGS. Please ask your employer about it. And thanks.
