Introducing
the Michigan Chapter

The Michigan
NephCure Chapter was formed back in March,
and although we have yet to have a face
to face group meeting, members have been
corresponding actively with one another
via email. Most of us live at least 45 minutes
from one another, and have very tight schedules,
but we are hoping that in the summer months
we can arrange a get together and some outings.
Our biggest thrust has
been awareness of our cause through the
Art Doll Angel Project http://www.spydermum.com/ArtDollAngelProject.htm
that was the brainchild of 5 year old
Damien, who has FSGS, and his mom, Lauri
Jean, who founded the Michigan Chapter.
We've received interest from 300+ artists
around the world who we are hoping will
follow through and donate an Art Doll Angel
for auction, with proceeds going to NephCure
for research.
The tentative due date
for the dolls to be in, is June 21, 2004
and we are hoping to host the auction on
eBay sometime in September. It is our intention
to do the Art Doll fundraiser on an annual
basis, and Lauri Jean and Damien are learning
a lot about what has been effective with
their efforts so far, and what will be time
better spent for next year's event. Please

Damien has also
been making polymer clay pins with the help
of his mom and selling them both on and
off eBay with $1.00 from each sale going
to NephCure. So far, his efforts have raised
$49.00 for NephCure, and working with the
clay helps him to control the tremors the
medications often cause in his hands. We'd
be happy to hear from any other NephCure
Chapters who might want to sell these pins
locally as a fundraiser.
We've also received several
donations of greeting card fronts from well
meaning parties so are trying to figure
out the best way to put these to use for
NephCure, possibly doing a line of recycled
greeting cards for sale around the Christmas
Holidays. We welcome interaction with other
Chapters and wish everyone health and a
positive attitude. Remember, there is beauty
in struggle…and every little bit does make
a difference, just ask Damien!!
